I have our website offline for testing. In admin mode I see all the posts and catagories, but when I bring the website back online, I don't see the posts. What triggers this?

Also, when I try sending a PM, I see all these extra buttons under the text field that are related to other plugins and components. I don't want the front end user to see that option.
